Hangar Floor Coatings in Houston, TX

Hangar Floors · Houston, TX

Bright, seamless hangar floors built to resist fuel and fluids

A hangar floor coating has to carry aircraft tires and rolling equipment. It also has to stand up to jet fuel, oils and hydraulic fluid. We coat T-hangars, private and corporate hangars, maintenance and FBO hangars, and museum hangars across Greater Houston. This work is part of our commercial epoxy flooring, with the same prep and crews.

We coated the hangar floors at the Lone Star Flight Museum at Ellington Airport. The museum's two hangars total 60,000 air-conditioned square feet. A customer wrote that the museum moves 40 or more planes a month across them. We have installed floor coatings across Greater Houston since 2008, more than 3.5 million square feet in all.

What We Handle

  • T-hangars, box hangars, corporate and FBO hangars, maintenance hangars and museum hangars
  • Diamond grinding, crack and joint repair and a moisture test on every slab
  • An epoxy base coat under a urethane, polyaspartic or polyurea topcoat
  • High-gloss white or light gray solid colors that reflect the overhead lights
  • Quartz or aluminum oxide texture on walkways and areas that get wet
  • Safety striping and marked walkways built into the coating
  • Custom logos set into the floor, including a compass rose
  • Commercial builds typically 2 to 3 millimeters thick

What goes into an aircraft hangar floor coating?

Prep comes first. We diamond grind the slab and repair cracks and joints. Then we test the concrete for moisture, and a vapor barrier primer goes down when the reading calls for one. A U.S. Navy hangar floor coating specification also calls for measuring the slab's moisture vapor emission before coating.

Hangar floor epoxy goes down next as the base coat, because epoxy bonds to concrete best. Over it goes a urethane, polyaspartic or polyurea topcoat that takes the wear. One hangar flooring guide calls epoxy under a urethane topcoat a seamless, chemical resistant surface. Commercial builds like this typically run 2 to 3 millimeters thick.

Why is so much hangar flooring white or light gray?

Light floors bounce the overhead light back up. Coating makers' hangar guides say a hangar floor should reflect overhead lighting so crews can see spills and dropped tools. We install high-gloss white or light gray as a solid color epoxy floor.

The same hangar flooring guide calls for a non-slip surface, even when the floor is wet or oily. It also notes that a smooth finish makes equipment easy to move. So walkways and wet areas can take texture from a quartz epoxy floor system or an aluminum oxide additive. Our page on anti-slip floor coatings covers how we pick the texture level.

Safety striping goes into the coating, too. That guide also lists clearly marked safety lines and designated walkways among the features to consider. We lay out walkways and work zones in the colors you choose, and logos can be set into the floor.

Airplane hangar flooring across Greater Houston

Conroe-North Houston Regional Airport hosts over 300 aircraft and 240 hangars. West Houston Airport has 60 T-hangar units, plus community and private hangars. Sugar Land's regional airport focuses on corporate aviation, and the city calls it the fourth largest in the Houston area. Our service area runs about 40 miles out from our Memorial office, north to Conroe and south to Alvin.

A hangar floor job starts with an empty hangar. The aircraft move out for the work, and the coating cures before they roll back in. We plan that schedule with you ahead of time. You can see more of our hangar and commercial work on our project page.

How We Work

How a Job With Epoxy One Runs

From the first call or text to the walk-through on the finished floor, here is how it goes.

1

Call or text

Reach us at (281) 831-5656 and tell us about the floor. We book estimates on weekdays.

2

Free on-site estimate

We measure the slab, look at its condition and run a moisture test. Then you get a quote for the system we recommend.

3

Color and finish

Pick the color and finish from samples. Options include full flake, solid color, quartz and metallic.

4

Prep and coats

We diamond grind the slab and repair cracks and joints. A vapor barrier primer goes down when the moisture test calls for it. Then comes the base coat, the flake or pigment broadcast, and the clear topcoat.

5

Cure and walk-through

Most garages are a two-day job, and a metallic floor takes about three days. We do a final walk-through and tell you when to drive on the floor.

FAQ

Hangar Floors Questions, Answered

Common questions about hangar floors across Greater Houston, from Conroe to Alvin. If yours is not here, call or text and ask.

Call (281) 831-5656

Will aircraft tires mark a coated hangar floor?
New tires can. A U.S. Navy hangar floor coating specification says new tires in warm conditions may leave dark imprints. It advises cardboard or plastic sheets under each new tire until it is slightly worn.
Can a hangar floor coating handle hydraulic fluid and jet fuel?
Yes, when the system is built for it. A hangar flooring guide says properly engineered systems resist jet fuel, oils, hydraulic fluids and cleaning agents. It also warns that aviation hydraulic fluid leaking from landing gear is typically hot. We choose the topcoat with that in mind, and a polyurea topcoat brings chemical resistance.
Is polyaspartic worth the money on a hangar floor?
It is worth a look where sun reaches the floor. A hangar flooring guide notes that hangars are often exposed to sunlight, and some epoxy coatings discolor over time. A polyaspartic topcoat is UV stable, so it does not yellow, and it resists abrasion. It goes over an epoxy base, which bonds to concrete best.
Do you coat small private hangars and T-hangars?
Yes. A T-hangar or a small box hangar gets the same prep and moisture test as a large hangar. The on-site estimate is free for any size of floor. Call or text (281) 831-5656 to set one up.
Can you put our logo or a compass rose in the floor?
Yes. We have set a compass rose into a hangar floor, and our crews taped it off by hand. Custom logos and decals go into the floor as part of the coating.
What does a hangar floor coating cost?
Price follows the square footage and the condition of the slab. Grinding off an old coating or adding a vapor barrier primer adds work, and so do texture, striping and logos. We price the floor after a free on-site look, and quotes often come back within a day. Call or text (281) 831-5656.

These guys did my garage floor back in November, Pablo really knows the technical knowledge and recommend a vapor barrier to be put down first. 3 months in and it still looks brand new. Went with Folsom color choice. Super easy to work with and plan around the drywall crew. Highly recommended!

I work for a custom home builder in the Houston area and we have been using Xpedite Coating for many years on our garage epoxy floors. They are very professional and timely and always leave the site clean after they are finished. I would highly recommend them for your next epoxy flooring need.

I used Xpedite Coatings twice to finish my epoxy flake garage floor at 2 properties. This guy is professional at what they do. The crew came and finished the job in a timely manner. The results look great and price is competitive. Highly recommended.
