Colored quartz grains locked into an epoxy base

A quartz epoxy floor is colored quartz grains set into an epoxy base coat, then sealed under clear coats. The grains leave a sandy texture that holds its grip when the floor gets wet. It is one of the finishes we install as part of our epoxy flooring in Houston.

Quartz suits floors that stay wet or take hard traffic, like commercial kitchens, restrooms, locker rooms and parking garages. At home, it is an option for epoxy garage floors and workshops that need more grip than flake. Every job starts with diamond grinding and a moisture test on the bare slab. We have installed floor coatings in Houston since 2008.

What We Handle

  • Colored quartz broadcast into a wet epoxy base coat until the surface looks dry
  • Loose quartz swept and vacuumed off after the base coat cures
  • Clear coats sealed over the quartz to lock the grains in place
  • A sandier finish for grip or a smoother finish for easy mopping
  • Quartz blends that include Port Wine, Salt and Pepper, Granite and Black Pearl
  • Diamond grinding and crack and joint repair on the bare slab
  • A moisture test on every floor, with a vapor barrier primer when it is called for
  • A UV stable topcoat for garages and rooms that get direct sun

How is a quartz broadcast floor installed?

Prep comes first. We diamond grind the slab and repair cracks and joints. Then we test the concrete for moisture, and a vapor barrier primer goes down when the reading calls for one.

Next, an epoxy base coat is rolled onto the slab. While it is still wet, our crews broadcast colored quartz into it until the surface looks dry. Installers call that broadcasting to refusal. Once the base cures, we sweep and vacuum up the loose grains.

Clear coats go on last and lock the quartz in. A thin clear coat keeps the sandy profile, which gives the most grip underfoot. A thicker coat fills more of that profile, so the floor feels smoother and mops easier. Floors that take heavy traffic can get a second broadcast layer before the final coat.

Quartz floor coating blends and where they fit in Houston

Our quartz blends include Port Wine, Peppermint, Shawnee Red, Sky, Blue Coral, Pinto and Desert Sand. We also install Chocolate, Cinnamon, Granite, Sahara, Salt and Pepper, Smoke and Black Pearl. You pick the blend from samples at the free estimate.

Commercial kitchens are a natural fit, since the floor gets wet all day. We have installed a commercial kitchen floor in the Port Wine blend. The coved edges and drain details of a full kitchen build are on our commercial kitchen floors page. Showrooms and other product display areas are a good fit too.

Across Greater Houston, quartz goes where tires and wet shoes meet the floor. We have coated a commercial parking garage floor in the Salt and Pepper blend. Quartz is one of three ways we build grip into a floor. The other two, an aluminum oxide additive and a textured topcoat, are on our anti-slip floor coatings page.

Epoxy quartz flooring compared with flake, metallic and solid color

A flake epoxy floor uses the same broadcast idea with flat vinyl chips. Flake leaves a light texture and hides patches in the slab, and it is the finish most home garages get. Quartz comes as sand-like grains, so the surface can stay rougher and hold more grip. That makes quartz the pick for rooms that stay wet.

Metallic epoxy floors go the other way. Pigment is worked into clear epoxy for a smooth, marbled look in a living room or a foyer. A solid color epoxy floor is one even color under a clear topcoat. Both start smooth, and a fine grit in the topcoat adds some grip.

Every finish starts with the same prep and moisture test. Where sun hits the floor, we can finish with a UV stable polyaspartic topcoat, which does not yellow. Quartz also goes into our commercial epoxy flooring where a walkway or loading area needs grip.

How We Work

How a Job With Epoxy One Runs

From the first call or text to the walk-through on the finished floor, here is how it goes.

1

Call or text

Reach us at (281) 831-5656 and tell us about the floor. We book estimates on weekdays.

2

Free on-site estimate

We measure the slab, look at its condition and run a moisture test. Then you get a quote for the system we recommend.

3

Color and finish

Pick the color and finish from samples. Options include full flake, solid color, quartz and metallic.

4

Prep and coats

We diamond grind the slab and repair cracks and joints. A vapor barrier primer goes down when the moisture test calls for it. Then comes the base coat, the flake or pigment broadcast, and the clear topcoat.

5

Cure and walk-through

Most garages are a two-day job, and a metallic floor takes about three days. We do a final walk-through and tell you when to drive on the floor.

FAQ

Quartz Floors Questions, Answered

Common questions about quartz floors across Greater Houston, from Conroe to Alvin. If yours is not here, call or text and ask.

Call (281) 831-5656

Is a quartz floor slippery when it is wet?
Quartz is one of the grippier finishes we install. The grains give the surface texture, and a thin clear coat leaves that texture in place. More texture also takes more scrubbing, so we match the level to the room.
Can I get a quartz garage floor at home?
Yes. A quartz garage floor makes sense when the floor gets wet often or you want more grip than flake gives. The surface is sandier underfoot, so a deck brush cleans it faster than a flat mop. Most homeowners still choose flake, and you can see both at the estimate.
How long does a quartz epoxy floor take?
It depends on the size of the floor and how many layers it gets. Each coat needs cure time before the next one goes on. A single broadcast with one clear coat finishes sooner than a double broadcast build. We set the schedule with you at the estimate.
What does a quartz epoxy floor cost?
Square footage sets the starting point, and the slab sets the rest. An old coating to grind off or a moisture reading that calls for a vapor barrier primer adds work. A second broadcast layer or a thicker clear coat adds material. Estimates are free, so call or text (281) 831-5656 and we will price the floor after a look at the slab.
How do I clean a quartz epoxy floor?
Sweep or dust mop the loose grit first. Then scrub with a neutral cleaner and a deck brush, and rinse it clean. For easier mopping, ask for the smoother finish.
Do you install quartz floors outside the city of Houston?
Yes. From our Memorial office, we work about 40 miles out, north to Conroe and south to Alvin. That covers Katy, Cypress, Sugar Land, The Woodlands, Pearland and Kingwood. Call or text (281) 831-5656 for a free estimate.

These guys did my garage floor back in November, Pablo really knows the technical knowledge and recommend a vapor barrier to be put down first. 3 months in and it still looks brand new. Went with Folsom color choice. Super easy to work with and plan around the drywall crew. Highly recommended!

I work for a custom home builder in the Houston area and we have been using Xpedite Coating for many years on our garage epoxy floors. They are very professional and timely and always leave the site clean after they are finished. I would highly recommend them for your next epoxy flooring need.
