Polyaspartic floor coatings cure fast and hold their color in the sun. Polyaspartic is a form of aliphatic polyurea, mixed on site and spread over prepared concrete. Most floors get polyaspartic as the clear coat over an epoxy base. Epoxy bonds to concrete best, and the polyaspartic on top takes the sun, the hot tires and the daily traffic. That is the build we recommend for most epoxy garage floors. When a floor has to be back in service the next day, we install a full polyaspartic system instead.

Polyaspartic is an aliphatic polyurea. Two parts get mixed at the job: a polyaspartic ester resin and an aliphatic hardener. They cure by reacting with each other, not by drying. That is why the coat sets so fast.
The aliphatic part is what keeps the color true. Aliphatic coatings hold up under UV light, while a plain epoxy topcoat can amber where the sun hits it. Polyaspartic also resists abrasion and most household chemicals, so tools, carts and hot tires do not mark it up.
Cure time is measured in hours. A coated floor usually takes foot traffic that evening and vehicles the next day. Prep still sets the schedule, because the grinding and the repairs come first.
In a home garage the polyaspartic is the clear coat on top. Under it sits the epoxy base and your color: solid, metallic or a full broadcast of vinyl flake. Our flake epoxy floors page shows the blends that go under a clear coat.
A full polyaspartic system earns its place when the schedule is tight. Auto shops, dealership service bays, warehouses and retail floors cost money every hour they sit closed. Outdoor concrete is the other good fit. Patios, porches and open carports sit in direct sun most of the year here. A polyaspartic coat keeps that slab the color you picked, and it cleans up with a hose and a mop.
Damp air does not stop a polyaspartic cure. The two parts react with each other. A humid Gulf Coast week will not stall the job or cloud the finish. That tolerance matters here, where the humidity runs high most of the year.
Heat shapes how the crews work. Once the two parts are mixed the working window is short, and a warm slab makes it shorter. Our crews mix small batches and move in sections, so the coat stays even across the floor.
The bigger Houston problem sits under the slab. Homes here are built slab on grade over Gulf Coast clay, and water vapor rises through the concrete. Every job starts with a moisture test, and a vapor barrier primer goes down when the test calls for one. Without that step any coating can peel later, polyaspartic included.

We measure the slab, look at its condition and run a moisture test. Then you get a quote for the system we recommend.
Pick the color and finish from samples. Options include full flake, solid color, quartz and metallic.
We diamond grind the slab and repair cracks and joints. A vapor barrier primer goes down when the moisture test calls for it. Then comes the base coat, the flake or pigment broadcast, and the clear topcoat.
Most garages are a two-day job, and a metallic floor takes about three days. We do a final walk-through and tell you when to drive on the floor.
