A polyurea floor coating is a two part coating that cures fast and stays flexible. It takes impact, hot tires and the small movement a Houston slab sees. We install polyurea on garages, workshops, shop floors and outdoor slabs across Greater Houston. Every floor starts with the concrete: diamond grinding, crack and joint repair, and a moisture test.
Most floors we build start with an epoxy base coat and finish with a polyurea topcoat. Epoxy soaks into the ground slab and grips it, so the bond holds. The polyurea on top takes the wear. We also install full polyurea and polyaspartic floor coatings when a floor has to reopen the next day.

Polyurea is made from two parts that react the moment they meet. One side is an isocyanate. The other is an amine resin. Together they build a tough film with some give to it.
The reaction is quick. Pure polyurea can set in seconds, so it gets sprayed with special heated equipment. Floor grade versions are slowed down enough for a crew to spread and back roll them by hand. The working window is still short, so we mix small batches and work in sections.
That give is what separates polyurea from epoxy. Epoxy cures hard and rigid. Polyurea stays flexible, so it takes a dropped wrench or a shifting slab in stride. It also holds up to oil, grease and the salt a truck drags in.
For most jobs, both. Epoxy has a long working time and a thin body, so it soaks into ground concrete and locks in. Polyurea sets too fast to spread across a whole slab as a base coat. The two work as a pair.
So we grind the slab, repair cracks and joints, lay the epoxy base, then put polyurea on top. Most of our epoxy garage floors and shop floors are built that way. Epoxy grips concrete better than the fast coatings. That is why epoxy flooring in Houston stays the base of the work.
A full polyurea system is a real option. Some customers ask for it, and some schedules need the floor back the next day. We will build it that way. Prep does not change, since the slab still gets ground, repaired and tested.
Houston slabs sit on clay that swells and shrinks with the weather. Slabs move, and hairline cracks show up. A flexible coating rides that movement better than a rigid one. We still repair cracks and joints during prep, before a drop of coating goes down.
Moisture is the bigger issue here. Water vapor pushes up through a slab on grade and lifts coatings off. Every floor gets a moisture test, and a vapor barrier primer when the reading calls for one. Polyurea cures well in our humidity, but the slab underneath still has to pass the test.
Sun matters too. Garage doors take direct afternoon sun, and a plain epoxy topcoat can yellow behind them. Those floors get a UV stable topcoat instead. The same thinking goes into patios, loading areas and commercial epoxy flooring in Houston warehouses and shops.

Pick the color and finish from samples. Options include full flake, solid color, quartz and metallic.
We diamond grind the slab and repair cracks and joints. A vapor barrier primer goes down when the moisture test calls for it. Then comes the base coat, the flake or pigment broadcast, and the clear topcoat.
Most garages are a two-day job, and a metallic floor takes about three days. We do a final walk-through and tell you when to drive on the floor.
