How Much Does an Interior Epoxy Floor Cost in Houston?
In Houston, an interior epoxy floor in a solid color commonly runs about $3.85 to $4.25 per square foot installed. Quartz runs about $7 per square foot, and a metallic or polyaspartic system runs $7.50 to $10. On a 1,500 square foot floor, solid color comes to about $5,775 to $6,375.
Those are market numbers, not our price list. One national cost guide puts installed epoxy flooring at $3 to $12 per square foot. Another puts it at $4 to $10. Your slab and your rooms decide where a floor lands in those ranges.
How much does it cost to epoxy a house floor?
Most quotes for epoxy flooring in a house are built per square foot. The finish sets the base rate, and the slab sets the rest.
| Finish or source | Installed range per square foot |
|---|---|
| Solid color epoxy, Houston market | about $3.85 to $4.25 |
| Flake epoxy, Houston market | between solid color and quartz |
| Quartz broadcast, Houston market | about $7 |
| Metallic epoxy or polyaspartic, Houston market | $7.50 to $10 |
| One national cost guide, epoxy flooring | $3 to $12 |
| A second national cost guide, epoxy flooring | $4 to $10 |
National guides also price single rooms. One puts an epoxy kitchen floor at $400 to $2,000 installed.
Prep is part of every job, starting with diamond grinding and a moisture test. Our interior epoxy floors page covers the rooms we coat: living rooms, kitchens, foyers, media rooms and home gyms.
How much does it cost to epoxy 1,500 or 2,000 square feet?
The math is square feet times the rate. The Houston columns apply the ranges above, and the national column applies the full $3 to $12 span.
| Floor size | Solid color | Quartz | Metallic or polyaspartic | National guides |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1,500 sq ft | $5,775 to $6,375 | about $10,500 | $11,250 to $15,000 | $4,500 to $18,000 |
| 2,000 sq ft | $7,700 to $8,500 | about $14,000 | $15,000 to $20,000 | $6,000 to $24,000 |
A flake floor lands between the solid color and quartz columns. A solid color epoxy floor is the lowest cost finish, in gloss, satin or flat. Metallic sits at the top, and our metallic epoxy floor cost guide breaks it down by room.

What drives the cost of an interior epoxy floor?
Several things move a house floor inside those ranges. Most come down to the slab and the shape of the rooms.
Square footage and open plans. One open living area coats as a single floor. A string of small rooms adds edges and doorways, and each one takes hand work.
Cabinets, islands and thresholds. The crew cuts in around every cabinet base and kitchen island. Thresholds, where the coating meets another floor, take extra care.
The floor that is down now. We coat bare concrete. Tile, wood or carpet has to come up first. That tear-out is a separate cost, handled before our crew starts.
A national flooring cost guide puts tile removal at $2 to $7 per square foot. Carpet removal runs $0.70 to $1.60 in the same guide. Old paint or an old coating is different: we grind it off the slab as part of our prep.
Cracks and joints. Most Houston homes sit on a slab-on-grade foundation over clay that swells and shrinks. Slabs move and crack, so cracks and joints get repaired before the base coat.
The moisture test. Water vapor rising through the slab is the number one reason coatings fail here. Every job includes a moisture test. When the reading runs high, a vapor barrier primer goes down first and adds to the cost. Here is why epoxy floors peel in Houston.
The finish and the topcoat. Solid color costs the least, and flake, quartz and metallic add material and hand work. A metallic epoxy floor is worked by hand into marble or veined patterns, so it sits at the top. A polyaspartic topcoat costs more than polyurethane, and it is UV stable, so it does not yellow in sun.
Furniture and days out of the room. The room has to be empty before the crew starts. A national guide says to budget at least $100 if you need short-term storage. For a metallic floor, plan on about three days away from the room. One goes to prep, and two go to coats and cure.
Is epoxy flooring cheaper than tile?
Usually, going by published numbers. A national flooring cost guide lists installed prices for each floor type side by side.
| Floor | National installed range per square foot |
|---|---|
| Epoxy flooring | $4 to $10 |
| Luxury vinyl plank | $4 to $16 |
| Hardwood | $11 to $25 |
| Tile | $10 to $50 |
By finish, Houston epoxy commonly runs about $3.85 to $10 per square foot. That sits at or below the low end for tile and hardwood in the guide. Luxury vinyl plank overlaps epoxy at the low end.
Two things change the math. If tile is already down, its removal is a cost of its own. Epoxy also needs a sound, dry slab, since the coating bonds to the concrete itself.
Epoxy has trade-offs to weigh against the price. It is hard and cool underfoot, much like tile. A national cost guide notes a glossy epoxy floor can become slippery when wet. A textured finish or a non-slip additive helps.
The clear coat can scratch under grit or dragged furniture, so felt pads help. If you like the look of the concrete itself, compare polished concrete vs epoxy.
Are epoxy floors worth it inside a home?
For a sound, dry slab, often yes. One national guide says epoxy flooring lasts between 10 and 20 years under light traffic. Most rooms in a home carry light foot traffic.
Take a 1,500 square foot solid color floor at the Houston range. Spread over 10 to 20 years, it costs about $290 to $640 a year. It fits best where you want a seamless floor that wipes clean. A room where you want a soft, warm floor underfoot is a poorer fit.
How do you get a real number for your floor?
These ranges come from the Houston market and national guides, and none of them is a quote. We price an interior floor after we measure the rooms and test the slab. The estimate is free, and a quote often comes back within a day.
